What is the longest lasting type of flooring?
Traditionally, ceramic tile or stone can last for centuries. Wood when properly installed and maintained can last a long time too. Let’s talk about 3 things that make long lasting flooring in any material.
1. Correct Installation- Ideally, have the installation done by an expert. But if you plan to install your own flooring. Here are some things that experts know to look for: Is the subfloor surface ready? How level is the subfloor? Is it flat enough, or does it need to be leveled? Are there transitions to different rooms where the subfloor level varies? If the installation is going over a cement slab, is the slab sealed? How much moisture is coming through the slab? Is the subfloor damaged by settlement cracks, water, or pets? What issue/s need to be repaired for the installation to comply with the manufacturer’s warranty?
2. Pick the right product- Select a product that is suitable for your floor. Carpet is durable, quick to install, and may not require repairs to the subfloor. However, in the kitchen and bathrooms, it is more practical to install a hard surface floor that can be mopped like a luxury vinyl plank. Flooring has improved a lot and now many types are waterproof or water-resistant.
3. Buy flooring from a reputable source- Pick a product with a good warranty by a company that has been around a long time. SCF carries many A-grade products that are durable and in the unlikely event that they are damaged will be covered by the warranty.
