Luxury vinyl 9" plank installed in kitchen

What is the best flooring for your kitchen?

Luxury vinyl plank or LVP

Our first choice is based on what we see people putting in their kitchen remodel plans. LVP has many benefits: it is durable, it looks and feels like wood, it is waterproof or water resistant depending on the brand, and it is economical because it will save you money and time on installation. There is a wide assortment of styles, colors, and brands of LVP. Other factors such as the installation site and the interior design will contribute to what you choose. Below is a photo of a kitchen floor we recently completed. The luxury vinyl manufacturer is Lux Flooring, the collection is Royal Oaks, and the color is Honey Suckle.

Waterproof hardwood flooring

Hardwood is a good choice for the kitchen because the natural variation of real wood grain. Unlike LVP, which is made with a limited number of wood patterns, and in a large space some people will notice that the patterns repeat, hardwood has unlimited natural variation. Today, manufacturers like MSI Surfaces (shown in the photo below) offer natural hardwood floors that are waterproof which takes the worry out of hardwood. Homeowners thinking of selling their homes often choose hardwood because it has a reputation for adding value to the house.

Other things to consider

Kitchen flooring has many texture options. We recommend coming into our showroom to see a wide assortment.

Textures

Distressed planks are popular. Distressing makes the floor look worn in with scrape, burn and other wear marks.

Wire-brushed planks have subtle scratches and raised grain in a more uniform look.

Hand-scraped planks are marked with varying width and length scrapes and saw cut marks that give a handcrafted impression.

Reclaimed planks look like they have been recycled from old buildings. They tell an intriguing story
